We think about colour differently
Atelier Ellis makes natural, breathable, bio-based paint and colour to help people tell their story of home.
Founded by Cassandra Ellis in 2018, we are a human-scale business that looks for reminders of humanity in everything we do. We are an independent maker of colour, formulating, making, and selling our own exceptional quality paint.
The 126 colours that make up our collection reflect a new classicism that is neither minimalist nor traditional. Embracing a simple-useful-beautiful aesthetic, the colours are deeply rooted in the natural world, as well as personal memories, marks, and fragments.
We see home as a container and colour as a conduit
Atelier Ellis treasures home in its truest sense - as a container for everything. An almanac of our homes as the holder of our possessions, experiences, palettes, people and place.
We want homes to be an uplifting container for the life, stories and memories that happen there. Our intensely pigmented, en terre colours are designed to envelop and create spaces that are welcoming, calming and cocooning.
We craft our colours like an artist, using up to 10 pigments to create our perfectly complex, unique and nuanced shades. Every colour is both familiar and comforting, imagined from timeless human, nature and art-based ideas. Our hope is that they inspire people to create the perfect backdrop for the way they wish to live.
Our founder
Cassandra Ellis is the founder of Atelier Ellis and is celebrated for her deep commitment to responsible stewardship and beauty. As a colourist with a rich background in decorative design, Cassandra crafts colours and stories that inspire serene and natural living spaces, helping us tell our story of home and place. Her work embodies a thoughtful blend of artistry and environmental care.

We believe beauty is the language of care
The true beauty of making colour and paint is a carefully considered balancing act of responsible and accountable materials, production, locality and respect for humans. It isn’t one over the other.
It’s equally in the paint that we make, where we make it and how we make it. All combined with warmth, humanity, simplicity and a true need to create colours that help people tell their story of home – now and long-term.
It also means that we choose to make beautiful, breathable bio-based paint, holding ourselves to the highest standards for quality. We continually adjust and improve what we make as better materials and processes become available. We are driven by what we don’t know and what we want to find out.
